WILD MINDS

Daydreaming can help solve problems, trigger creativity, and inspire great works of art and science. But for some people it becomes an obsession. ”Maladaptive daydreaming” is a newly identified psychological disorder, where the people who suffer from it get so indulged in their inner fantasy worlds, that it slowly takes over everything. In the performance Wild Minds the audience attend an imagined therapy group for extreme fantasizers. The text performed by the actors is based on interviews with four Americans who identify as maladaptive daydreamers. The interviews were conducted via Skype and in person by Marcus Lindeen in New York. During the performance the actors are listening to the actual audio from these interviews and are asked to repeat what they hear as precise as possible.

Wild Minds was commissioned by Moderna Museet. It was first performed at the museum in 2013 during the festival Stockholm Literature. The production was selectedas one of the best Swedish performances at The Swedish Biennial for Performing Arts in 2015. Wild Minds also performed in 2014 at both Dramalabbet and Riksteatern as part of Tempo Documentary Festival and the festival Teaterdagarna in Stockholm, as well as at Palladium in Malmö as part of Malmöfestivalen.

In 2016, Wild Minds, was performed at The Schaubühne in Berlin as well as at The Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm as part of the Ingmar Bergman International Theatre Festival.

A French version was made in 2017 for Comédie de Caen. It was selected as part of Festival d'Automne 2019 and presented at T2G - Théâtre de Gennevilliers in Paris.

In 2020, Wild Minds was performed in a Spanish version titled Mentes Salvajes at The Centre Gabriela Mistral, GAM, in Chile in a production directed by Víctor Carrasco.

In 2022, it was presented as part of The Trilogy of Identities at Festival d’Automne in Paris.
