Marcus Lindeen is a Swedish writer and director working with film and performance. In 2022 he premiered The Trilogy of Identities at Festival d’Automne in Paris consisting of the plays Orlando et Mikael, Wild Minds and L’Aventure invisible. His performance works has been presented at Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels, Schaubühne in Berlin, Piccolo Teatro in Milan and Wiener Festwochen in Vienna.
Marcus Lindeen’s feature documentary film The Raft premiered at CPH:DOX in Copenhagen in 2018 where it won the main award. The Raft has since been shown in over fifty festivals (IDFA, BFI London, Zürich, Melbourne, Sao Paolo, Moscow) and was theatrically released in eleven countries, among them France, Mexico, the UK and the US. The film became a New York Times Critic’s Pick and was broadcasted on BBC Storyville. The scenography for the film was exhibited as an art installation at Centre Pompidou. In 2019 the film won the Prix Europa for Best European Television Documentary. The same prize was awarded to Marcus Lindeen’s debut film Regretters in 2011. Regretters is both a theater play and a documentary film about two Swedish men who talk about their individual journeys through gender reassignment and back again. The play has been translated into several languages and the film went on to win numerous awards, among them both the Swedish Academy Award (Guldbagge) and Kristallen (Swedish Emmy) for best documentary film in 2011. The same year his second film Accidentes Gloriosos premiered at The Venice Film Festival where it picked up the prize for best medium-length film.
Marcus Lindeen lives between Paris and Stockholm, where he is pursuing a Ph.D. candidate at Stockholm University of the Arts, exploring the subject of “The Staged Conversation” through an artistic research project consisting of both film and theater works. His book on the subject, Iscensatta samtal, was published in Swedish in 2023.
Since 2021, Marcus is an associated artist at Piccolo Teatro in Milan and with Marianne Ségol he is an associated artist at Le Quai, CDN d’Angers Pays de Loire and CDN de Besançon. Together with Marianne he runs the Paris based theater company Wild Minds.

Son dernier film documentaire, The Raft, est sorti en salles en France et dans onze autres pays en 2018 après avoir remporté plusieurs prix et avoir été présenté dans plus de 50 festivals (IDFA, BFI Londres, Zürich, Melbourne, Sao Paolo, Moscou). La scénographie du film a été exposée au Centre Pompidou à Paris en tant qu'installation artistique. Le film a été sélectionné au New York Times "Critic's Pick", a été diffusé sur BBC Storyville et a décroché le Prix Europa du meilleur documentaire télévisé européen en 2019. Le même prix a été décerné au premier film de Marcus Lindeen, Regretters, en 2011 (disponible sur Netflix). La même année, son deuxième film Accidentes Gloriosos, une fiction coréalisée avec Mauro Andrizzi, a été présenté à la Mostra de Venise, où il a reçu le prix du meilleur moyen métrage.
Marcus Lindeen étudie la mise en scène au Dramatiska institutet à Stockholm (Le Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique). Il fait ses débuts en 2006 avec Regretters, pièce de théâtre et film documentaire. Parmi ses oeuvres théâtrales, on peut citer : The Archive of Unrealized Dreams and Visions (Stockholms stadsteater, 2012) et A lost Generation (Dramaten, 2013) joué au Parlement suédois, ainsi que pour la télévision.
Marcus Lindeen est artiste associé au Piccolo Teatro de Milan. Avec Marianne Ségol il est artiste associé au nouveau projet du Quai, CDN d’Angers Pays de Loire, dirigé par Marcial Di Fonzo Bo. A partir de janvier 2024, ils seront artistes associés au nouveau projet du CDN de Besançon dirigé par Tommy Milliot.
